Abstract

Organization has a life cycle consisting of: birth, groeth, decline and death. Organizational pass trough these stage at different rates and some do not experience every stage. Organization is born when entrepreneurs use their skill and competences to create value, this is a dangerous stage because entrepreneurship is a risky process, and organization procedures are new and undeveloped. As organization grows the increase their division of labor and specialization and develop the skill that gives them a competitive advantage. One of model organizational growth theory is Greiner’s five stage model (organization growth through creativity, direction, delegation, coordination and collaboration). Each growth stage end in crisis that must be solved if the organization to advance successfully to the next stage and continue to growth. If organization fail to manage the growth process effectively, the result is organizational decline, the stage when organization fails to anticipate, recocnize or adapt to external or internal pressure that threaten its survival. Weitzel and jonsson have identified five stage of decline: blinded, inaction, faulty action, crisis and dissolution. Organization death when organization divests its remaining resources or liquidates its asset.
