Abstract

In general, flexible road pavements in Indonesia are made of hotmix. The objective of this study therefore to investigate the characteristic of marshal and its structural value at asphalt cement with 60/70 penetration and coarse and fine agregate form crushed stone (produced by PT Statika Mitra Sarana Padang) under optimum asphalt condition. The result showed that OB=5.4%, VIN=3.6%, VMA=78%, Stability=1250 kg, Flow=3.7%, MQ=321 kg/mm and Density 2.31 gr/c. Those results confirmed that all physical properties of Mix Asphaltic Concrete as a pavement were obtained. The influence of time of loading in bitumen stiffness has been tested. It showed that 50 mm thick of pavement with 40 km/h velocity have 0.0208 s and 13.04497 MPa time of loading and bitumen stiffness respectively. While under similar pavement thickness with 80 km/h velocity gave 0.0109 s and 16.54693 MPa time of loading and bitumen stiffness respectively. The influence of pavement temperature in bitumen stiffness has been also tested. The result showed that the value of stiffness was greatly influenced by the time of loading and various pavement temperatures. Low time of loading resulted high bitumen stiffness. While mix stiffness value was influenced by level of asphalt flexibility and aggregate compaction. This study was also able to identify that maximum value of mix stifness are in the range of optimum asphalt condition.
