Abstract

This research describes a control analysis of braking system on an induction motor. A braking system using the plugging method is an implementation of braking system that is applied by changing over the motor direction in order to make the motor produces a balanced torsion power and to make a slowed power. The changeover of the motor direction is done by changing the polarity of voltage resources. Therefore, a resistor in series with the motor is needed on this braking control system so as to limit the motor current when a braking mechanism exists on this three phase induction motor. The measured motor stopping time on plugging method is faster than a normal braking system. Their time values are 15 second for braking system plugging method and 18.1 second on the normal braking system. Furthermore, the stopped time on a loaded motor and an unloaded motor is also measured in this research. The result shows that the stopped time of loaded motor is faster than the unloaded motor. The result can be proven with a source voltage of 188 Volt. Time needed on loaded motor is 3 second and 7.4 second is produced on unloaded motor.
