Abstract

Nowdays, the utilization of English in advertisement published in local newspaper, The Padang Ekspres, is increasing. This tendency should be carefully notified, especially to observe the urgency of utilizing English rather than utilizing lndonesian Language. Why do we need to use English ? The following explanations try to find the righl answer to this question by looking at the definition of advertisement, type of advetisement, characteristics of advertising language and domination of English in the mass media. By getting better understanding on the utilization of English vocabularies in advertisement especially in the local newspaper, Harian Padang Express, it is hoped that the readers will be able to gain comprehensive perspective on the potential reasons and possibilities to promote the Bahasa lndonesia for transferring 'contents' of certain advertisement.
