This research studies the problem of over voltages that occur on substation as a cause of lightning surge at overhead line, which is ground wire. This simulation id done by using electromagnetic transients program (emtp) as simulation software. Case study was done on sutt 150 kv kiliranjao – muarobungo, applying standardized iec (8/20 µs , 1/70 µs ). The simulation observed over voltages profile on the main equipment of substation and observed influence of arrester place on power transformer to evaluate isolation coordination on substation. The simulation show that there is on influence of arrester placement on the amount of over voltages on power transformer; for 6 m arrester placement, the peak voltage of following equipment are; ct is 543,837 kv, cb is 566,659 kv, ds is 579,357 kv, arrester is 527,884 and power transformer is 527,884 kv. And for 10 m arrester placement, the peak voltage of following equipment are; ct is 543,600 kv, cb is 567,269 kv, ds is 579,381 kv, arrester is 528,097 kv and power transformer is 528,123 kv.
