Abstract

A zero pollution alternative electric carting were modeled for efficiency and energy consumption study. A small carting was simulated by MATLAB®/Simulink® software in steady-state condition. The model includes models of battery, power electronics converter, electric motor, and vehicle dynamic of a typical 48 seconds track driving schedule in Europe competition. The regenerative braking energy was also considered in simulation. The comparison of different type of electric motors – DC Motor, induction, permanent magnet motor, BLDC, and SRM - and batteries – Lead Acid, Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP), Nickel Metal Hybrids (NiMH) - also were investigated. The total price for this electric go-kart with different of electric motor was calculated. Finally, the total price and efficiency were compared with the combustion engine carting. The electric carting that was using induction motor and NiMH battery is the cheapest and reasonable for electrification.
