Abstract

The use of river sand as substitution of some fine aggregate become an alternative to overcome limitation of material, especially fine aggregate which yielded by stone crusher. The objective of this research is to asses the influence of usage of river sand as substitutions of some fine aggregate so that can yield a mixture fulfilling conditions of pavement mixture performance with approach of absolute density. Percentages of river sand in mixture of AC-WC are 10%, 15% and 20% of the total weight of mix. The result of research indicate that usage of river sand as substitutions of some fine aggregate AC-WC mixture, reduces the value of Marshall stability (A mixture = 1205 kg, B mixture = 1135 kg, C mixture = 990 kg dan D mixture = 920 kg), but still fulfill the specification. VIM Refusal from result of absolute density test, KAO Marshall indicated that A mixture (0% Sand River) having degradation of value of VIM equal to 41,60% from VIM Marshall. For the B mixture has degradation of VIM larger ones that is 44,32%, C mixture has degradation of 45,35% and D mixture has biggest degradation, that is 48,80%. The result of research indicates that usage of river sand at AC-WC mixture, decrease the value of Marshall stability and usage of river sand up to 20% as replacing fine aggregate indicates that the mixture still fulfill all conditions of mixture of AC-WC in Specification of Kimpraswil 2005.
