Abstract

Mechanical process productivity must be improved. It will be push the product quantity based on product specification. Quality of product specification based on geometrical size and grad of surface roughness. The more amount of product, the more return of investment and company gain the benefit. Productivity for mechanical process depends on feeding and depth of cutting. To analyze the condition of cutting process, we must conduct research. The method applied in this research was used to analyze the factor of cutting process effect. The factors were speed and feeding which contributed on surface roughness. The variables of speeds were 43.12 mm/min, 49.28 mm/min, 54.88 mm/min, 62.72 mm/min, 72.52 mm/min, 73.92 mm/min, 82.88 mm/min, 94.08 mm/min and 124.32 mm/min. The variables of feeding were 37.39 m/min, 38.69 m/min and 51.11 m/min. The research has two samples. The specification of test pieces are that diameter is 22 mm, the length is 15 mm and material is ST 37. The output of this research is the surface roughness depends on speed and feeding. The more speed will be increase the surface roughness. On the other side, the more feeding will be decrease the surface roughness. The volume of chips indicates the productivity where more chips indicate more speed and feeding but surface roughness also increase.
