Abstract

Clay is very cencitive to water content. It is become the bearing of soil is law and it is be problem to building. This research use coconut fibre as material of vertical drain for draining water content in clay. Coconut fiber is made as rope shape, it is diameter 2,5 cm and length 100 cm. Clay is been into test box, with length 50 cm, wide 50 cm and hight 60 cm. Rope of coconut fibre is been into clay as vertical drain that square and triangle pattern. Coconut fiber can drain water form into clay, thus shear force of clay is increase. The result of research for square pattern is water content is decrease at 11.14 %, and shear force is icrease at 20.19 % for 7 days. For triangle pattern, the water content is decrease at 3.3 %, and shear force is increase at 36.6 % what happened about the result. At the testing for triangle pattern is dued, the water is not filled in test box but the testing is continueing form before.
