Abstract

This research aims to analyze the languages and symbols found in the advertisement of Shinzui soap packaging. The data in this study is Japanese language and English. The theory used to analyze the data is E-135(Sawirman, 2008:1). This theory consists of five stages: elaboration, representation, signification, exploration, and transfiguration. This research is done chronologically on three steps; they are collecting data, analyzing data, and presenting the result of analysis. In collecting the data, reading method with non-participant observation technique and note-taking technique as follow-up technique is used as basic technique. In analyzing the data, agih methods and padan methods is used. In agih methods, direct element dividing technique is applied and In padan methods, dividing element technique and translational methods is used. In presenting the result of analysis, informal methods is applied. The result of this analysis, on the Shinzui packaging stated that the soap is made from natural ingredients that will make user skin become whiter and healthier. In addition, these products have been clinically tested. A product reflects the culture in the society. There is an assumption that woman skin which as white as a Japanese woman is beautiful. This advertisement is also represents that Japanese language is popular in Indonesia
