Abstract

Student centered learning (SCL) model has been widely claimed as the most suitable learning model to be implemented in the classroom setting. However, the best practice of SCL model in vocational education and its effectiveness in achieving student competencies in auditing subject is still researchable. This research aimed to map the suitable SCL model to be implemented in auditing class as well as its effectiveness in improving student competencies in vocational education setting. Data was collected using questionnaire distributed to students and auditing lecturers from Accounting Department of 3 different Polytechnics in Sumatera and Java which are Politeknik Negeri Padang, Politeknik Negeri Jakarta and Politeknik Negeri Malang. Respondents were chosen using purposive random sampling. Data from questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Focus group discussion with students taking auditing subjects and the auditing lecturers were conducted to confirm the result further. The perceived suitable SCL model for each audit competencies required in auditing subject was mapped and the complementary input were used to develop the auditing semester lesson plan and teaching materials. The results showed that only 5 of 9 SCL model proposed were considered suitable and effective to be implemented in auditing learning setting for vocational education. Each of the SCL models was perceived suitable for certain auditing competencies specifically.
